Taking two varying worlds, one of the
earthy hues and dim lighting and the other of the high-rise corporate
buildings, Rhino creates a universe that is uniquely its own.
Restaurant Located on the Golf Course Road in Gurgaon Rhino
switches easily from being an old world African country club to a
place where you could just lay back and soak in good food.
More than anything Rhino is a visual
treat. The wooden planks on the walls, the yellow lighting and the
earthy tones give it a very timeless feel, which makes it slightly
different from ‘modern’ places. The design of the place smartly
uses space with a well-lit double height area that also serves as a
stage for live performances and the bar overlooks the Golf Course
road. The other interesting feature that contributes immensely to
Rhino’s laid-back feel is the outdoor dining area that offers one
great view.
Club Rhino’s cuisine like most
places today is bubbling cauldron of the entire world and Continental
dishes like Grilled Pepper Salmon Steak (Rs 795) rests as easily
possible with Burgers (Rs 225 onwards), Sandwiches (Rs 225 onwards),
Pastas (Rs 395 onwards) and select Indian fare. The starters menu is
mostly made up of continental items, Vegetable balls with Fig Jam (Rs
210), Duck Salad and Poached Pears (Rs 350) and so is a major part of
the main course. It’s heartening to see a lot of fish across the
menu and while the pricing might be slightly on the steeper side it’s
difficult to say no to something like King Fish Medallion (Rs 625)
which comes in two preparations salsa and white sauce. There’s just
a handful of Indian preparation but the five dishes - one each of
chicken, meat, fish, paneer and vegetable cover the entire spectrum.
Much like its ambience and the food
menu Rhino’s bar, too, blends things to come up with some crazy
concoctions. Most cocktails get a Rhino makeover; some of them have
been rechristened as well. So, a mojito becomes Dam U Fig (Rs 375)
and a Martini becomes Espressotini (Rs 375) and such. The bar mixes
drinks like Smoked Beetels smoked beetel nuts along with cachca and
orange Liqueur (Rs 375), then there’s Rude Rhino (Rs 425) rum and
malibu with pineapple juice and coco-curry foam. The scotch sections
starts at a very decent price of Rs 225 and a pint of beer is Rs 195.
The music too is a decent blend and
like everything else doesn’t overwhelm. All in all Rhino’s a
concoction of good food, mood and music and the view just helps.
